My favourite part of the day is my late night walk with the dogs--they get a walk to the park every single night without fail; just something that's stuck in our routine since Cadence was a little puppy. See, I used to live in a high rise apartment back in Vancouver, and at first I trained Cadence to pee on pee pads and he did great with those... until he turned 4 months old and decided that he did not want to pee on those any longer! So, I upped his daily walks from twice a day to 4 times a day. And so began our late night walk routine.
Walking late at night just has such an incredibly calming effect. Even in the middle of winter when it was FREEZING and there was snow or ice on the ground. I liked it when there was nobody around and we could walk slowly around the trail and the park. Here in Malaysia there's no freezing winter nights but it's still nice to walk at night. Evenings are irritating because way too many kids are around and insist on holding my dogs' leashes (one girl had tried to GRAB the leash from me. WTF?) or chasing them around, screaming at the top of their lungs. I am absolutely NOT a fan of kids. Especially these days when parents don't even have the time to teach them any manners anymore. Ugh.
Anyhow, late night walks. It's quiet and peaceful and I don't feel like I have to be IN A RUSH to go somewhere, ya know? I get to let the dogs explore the park off leash and I don't have to hurry them. They can go sniff out whatever they want to sniff, run around, and Cadence gets to pee on whatever lamp post or bush he wants to, LOL.
The BEST part?? It's NOT HOT!! Absolutely hate walking with the sun blazing down my face. I feel awful and the dogs feel awful too. So we have our long walks at night, which suits everyone just fine, I think! If you've never tried it, do it! It's definitely the most rejuvenating part of my day.
