So I finally dragged my ass to the MKA (Malaysian Kennel Association) office this morning to register to be a member, transfer Lyra's ownership to me (on her pedigree), and register for the March 23-25th shows! The MKA staff were really helpful, and one lady even gave me advice on showing/handling. She said to train as much as I can at home so that both Lyra and I will have confidence in the ring.. and most importantly, do not be nervous or apprehensive in the ring!
Have to say that I'm really excited about the shows. Don't think we'll be winning big or anything, but the experience is going to be so interesting. I can't wait to meet Papillons in the FCI shows (there were 2 last year, from Japan's Queenbless kennel). It's going to be a great opportunity for me to meet and speak with Papillon breeders so that hopefully I'll be able to import a show quality one in the near (or distant?) future.
Although I really, really love Cavaliers--they are special; I have to admit that the Papillon is still my "heart breed". They are just... so much spunk and wit in such a little package! I also like that the breed as a whole is very healthy, with only minor genetic health problems thanks to a rather large gene pool.
Gonna try to practice my handling and make sure that Lyra is 100% ready for the show! Since she is sort of an underdog, so to speak, she really needs to be absolutely PERFECT in every other aspect. Really crossing my fingers that she'll make her momma proud! I think she will so awesome, but you never know, so I'm gonna make sure that I have yummy treats in my pockets at ALL times. The girl loves food so much that she forgets all her worries and fears when she catches a whiff of it. Love food motivated dogs--they are so much easier to train.
I'll get some new pictures of Lyra stacking soon, and hopefully some gaiting pictures! I haven't tried taking any of those yet (my brother who usually helps me with the pictures doesn't really know how to use my DSLR so I need to teach him first).
Anyway, counting down the days to our first show!! Another 22 days to go... that means, 22 days left to practice!
