Finally have time to update on my Singapore trip 2 weeks ago! This time, I managed to do lots of touristy stuff, including watching Jersey Boys, visit the Singapore Aquarium, and the Night Safari. Highlight of the trip was most DEFINITELY the Night Safari! I can't remember the last time I had so much fun (except maybe at the Aquarium in Monterey, California). The place is just SO well-done. I understand that they had special architects to design the place so that the animals wouldn't need to be fenced, and to get the lighting to resemble very, very bright moonlight.
There were LOTS of animals--from elephants to giraffes to bats and flying squirrels and tapirs. They mostly had animals whose natural habitats are warm or tropical--tigers, water buffaloes, Indian wolves, etc. It was AMAZING. I loved watching the elephants. You know, there's something special about them. They are such old souls, and exude such a calming air of serenity. Even the babies!
Jersey Boys was kind of disappointing. The storyline itself was awesome—really loved it; hilarious, touching, and fun music! But the South African cast wasn’t really good. The lead actor/singer kept breaking his voice, and that was really awful. I’ve been to many musicals before, usually Broadway casts (and even got to watch Wicked at the Gershwin Theatre on Broadway), and they have always blown me away… this is really the first musical which fell short. Even the local Vancouver production of Mamma Mia that I watched a couple of years ago was much better.
Anyhow, here are a couple of touristy pictures that I managed to get. Unfortunately, no pictures of the animals at the Night Safari because it was just too dark, even for my 50mm/85mm f/1.8 lenses. Guess I would just have to invest in a tripod next time!
Next up, we headed to the dog shows, of course! Finally got to meet little Maverick, who just came all the way from Sweden a month ago. He has got to be the MOST cuddly Papillon puppy I've ever met! Pap puppies are usually crazy. You know, they are like tornadoes ripping through the place ALL the time... but not Maverick! He was CALM, and was happy to be picked up and cuddled. I think you can say that I am now one of his biggest fans ;)
There are loads more pictures here!
