People seem to always be asking me what I feed my dogs... well in short, pretty much everything! As you know, I'm a firm believer of "feed the dog anything from young and it'll grow an iron tummy". I rotate kibble about once a month (I only ever buy the smallest bags of food, so around 5-6lbs in weight). The brands that I use include: Acana (it's my favourite), Orijen, Annamet (second favourite!), Wellness, and Nature's Variety. I've fed a load of other brands but these few are my favourite. I usually buy the grain-free flavours, but sometimes I buy the grained ones... just for fun. I also rotate the meat sources, so the dogs don't get two same meat sources twice in a row. My rotation goes: red meat -> chicken/turkey/duck -> fish.
Secondly, my dogs get fed home cooked meals. Usually, they'll get leftover boiled meat from my mom's cooking. It's usually chicken or pork, but sometimes it's duck. I just make scrambled eggs and mix the meat and eggs together, so it looks like this:
I added in boiled carrots to this particular meal. The dogs absolutely LOVE it! I think they love it even more than raw meat.
Third, my dogs get fed raw (or as some people might call it, BARF). I buy premade packs from a local retailer. She sells them in 500gram packs. I always get either the mixed mince (beef, mutton, chicken, fish & veggies), or the beef mince. It's about 50% bone--kinda high, but this is pretty much the only raw food that I can buy around here, unless I make my own. Still looking for a grinder that can grind up bones!
So, in any normal week, my dogs get about 2-3 days' worth of kibble, 2 days of raw, and 2 days of home cooked. It keeps them interested in food, for sure! No picky eaters here.
I also add supplements into their meals--I tried a whole bunch, including probiotics and evening primrose oil... but it didn't seem to be doing anything, so now I'm sticking to fish oil and vitamin E. I've also recently added flaxseed oil capsules to the mix, so right now they're getting 1000mg fish oil and 250mg vitamin E every other day, and 1000mg of flaxseed oil on the days they don't get fish oil.
I used to also feed canned food, but for some reason, the dogs dislike it, so I've stopped feeding it. Cans are more expensive than raw anyway! Not sure why they don't like it, though. Maybe because of the mush?
The dogs also get a TON of snacks. My mom loves feeding them scraps from her own meals... so, they eat crackers, bread, apples, oranges, guava, bananas, rice, and a host of other random things. They don't get stomach upsets, though! Of course, they also get doggie treats--too many to be named! But mostly dehydrated chicken or duck, dried tendons (lasts longer), deer antlers, dried lamb ribs, and... much more.
Anyway, that's it! Pretty simple, huh?
