Here are the next shows that we'll most probably be attending... they are both going to be held in Penang, three hours' drive away from KL, so I'm still not completely certain that we'll go... on the bright side, I'll get to visit my cousins (and bunk at their place!) and eat all the yummy Penang food.
So I now have the pictures of Lyra and I at the shows last weekend, so this update will be full of pictures! I'm still waiting for the MKA to get back to me on the status of Lyra's CCs and the ribbon we won, though. When they have everything ready, I'm gonna go pick them up and get a picture of Lyra together with all her winnings from the weekend. That should be fun.
Anyway, on to pictures!
Some movement pictures... you can see that her topline isn't perfectly straight, as I've mentioned before... hopefully it improves as she matures.
I think this next picture shows how truly tired Lyra was by Sunday! She was such a trooper, though. She was sleeping soundly in her crate by the time the judging for Best Puppy in Show started--and this was on the last day of shows... she'd been trudging for three whole days! What a star. She did not complain or throw a fuss at all. I woke her up, and she happily got out of her crate and walked with me to the ring. She's such a super star even though we didn't win Best Puppy in Show or reserve anything! Her attitude alone is stellar. If only all people (and dogs!) could have her positive attitude.
And this last picture is my favourite--I look like a goof in it, but I think it captures the moment perfectly. My friend Devina took this picture for us right after we stepped out of the ring after having won best puppy in group, and Lyra was excited because everyone was screaming "good girl!!!" at her and giving her lots of hugs... so she resorted to licking my ear, lol.
Anyway, what can I say? I love my little Lyra. She's a really special little dog. It's funny how I look back and I can't imagine what my life was like before I had her (same feeling as after I got Cadence!! I don't know how I ever lived without a DOG). She turned 11 months old today! I can't believe how fast time flies. Soon, she will no longer be a puppy.
The next shows will be in Penang on April 22nd, but that is before Lyra's birthday, so I don't know if I'll be going. She can only become a Malaysian Champion after she turns one, so earning more CCs before then are not going to help... unless I want to make her a grand champion.
Maybe we'll still go, for fun... since I could visit my cousins and aunt there and eat the awesome Penang food there. We'll see!
We are finally done with the shows! Three very hectic and tiring days of waking up early and staying at the venue till the evening.. and lugging heavy dog things like crates and accessories and stuff. My back is aching... But, happy to report that WE DID WELL!
On the first day, (March 23rd) we attended the 2nd and 3rd Toy Dog Club of Malaysia Specialty Shows. The judges were Peter Cutler from Australia and Stanley Shen from Singapore. I handled both Lyra and Dexter (X-Clusive Model of Scarlett Team, imported from Slovakia), and Lyra was awarded 2 Bitch CCs and 2 Reserve BOBs. Dexter earned himself 2 Reserve CCs.
On the second day, we were only entered in one show (the AKU All Breeds Championship show) and sat out of the FCI one. Lyra sadly didn't win anything under judge Maribel Sy from the Philippines. BOB and Dog CC went to Elton (Int. Ch. Mal. Gr. Ch. Brendamay Yellow Brick Road, who is Lyra's dad) and the RBOB and Bitch CC went to Jethro (Mal. Ch. Cavashon As Good As It Gets at Lacavara) and Molly (Lacavara Eternal Flame) respectively.
The 3rd day was the highlight of our weekend, clearly! We were only entered in 1 show, the MKA All Breeds Championship Show (sat out of the 2nd FCI show) under judge Patricia Guild from South Africa (originally from the UK). I guess she liked Lyra quite a lot because she awarded her the Bitch CC (beating 3 other bitches who are all older and more mature than Lyra! Two of them are even Malaysian Champions, including Tiara, Lyra's aunt), as well as Best of Breed. I was amazed! I could barely believe it when the judge walked towards Lyra and I while we were standing next to Elton and Derrick (Lyra's dad and her breeder). Especially because Lyra misbehaved (first time she did this the entire weekend) and sat while on the examination table.. and then proceeded to sniff the judge's nose. I quickly pulled her butt up and said "I think she likes you".
I think most people could not believe that Lyra won BOB either, because Elton has been unbeatable for quite a while now, lol. But who knows what the judge saw in her? Guess maybe she saw something "extra" in there. After that, the judge awarded Lyra Best Puppy in Group!! She beat a French Bulldog, Maltese, Toy Poodle, and Shih Tzu puppy (some of whom had beat 3-5 other puppies in their breed before qualifying for this round). The Maltese puppy that she beat was here from Korea (the Koreans brought quite a few Maltese and Yorkies to Malaysia this time round), and had won "Best Puppy in Show" for the Toy Club show, which makes our win even more meaningful! Here is a video of Lyra winning:
Obviously, I was shocked beyond words and super, super proud of my little girl! What an achievement for her first shows ever. We won an awesome ribbon for the win, our first! (Please excuse the poor quality of this picture.. it was taken with my Blackberry)
That medal next to the ribbon is what Lyra won for the BOB. We also got two plaques for winning RBOB at the Toy Club shows, here's a picture:
Here are some other random pictures taken over the weekend:
All in all, we are super tired but had fun! Lots of interesting dogs to look at, and it was very interesting watching the judges' choices and their decisions... funny how they all either had very similar opinions on which dogs were best, or very very opposite opinions! Guess you'll never know who will win--you can speculate and sometimes you're right, but ever so often, the results really surprise you.
Anyway, very happy with Lyra as I did not expect this at all. I was expecting something like 2 Reserve CCs, that's it--instead she won so much more! Here's a summary:
1x Best Puppy in Group
1x Best of Breed
2x Reserve Best of Breed
3x Bitch CC
2x Best Junior in Breed
2x Best Puppy in Breed
I'll add on more pictures once I have them. In the meantime... Hooray!
This is where I update news on shows that any of my dogs are entered in, or shows at which I'm just a spectator.
